About Savannah Destination Management

Born and raised in Savannah, Kristin Detwiler knows the ins and outs of the local venues, restaurants, hotels and even some private homes! Her customer service and attention to detail is legendary in Savannah. With more than 15 years in the industry Kristin has intimate knowledge of all aspects of event planning. Her history includes working as a Meeting Planner for SmithBucklin, the world’s leading Association Management Company, as a Sales Manager for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, and as the Director of Sales for a local Destination Management Company. She has planned and implemented events ranging in size from 2-18,000 attendees. She is a graduate of The University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration.

Kristin is an active member of the Savannah hospitality industry serving six years on the Board of Directors for the Savannah Area Tourism Leadership Council (TLC) as well as currently serving as the Chairperson of the TLC Membership Committee. She is also the recipient of the 2007 Tourism Leadership Council Member of the Year Award. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for both VisitSavannah and the Savannah Downtown Business Association. She was named one of twenty GenerationNext, Savannah Rising Stars in 2011. She is a member of Meetings Professional International (MPI) and the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce where she previously served as a Chamber Ambassador. She is also an adjunct professor at the Savannah Technical College in their Hospitality Program.

With a new convention hotel in the works for Hutchinson Island and the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center ready to expand, the business of hosting conventions in Savannah is ever-increasing. That's why we've gathered a group of experts to talk about how you and your business can get a piece of the millions of dollars that are spent every year on conventions. You won't want to miss out: register today to reserve your spot!

  • Kurtina Pollen, Customer Communication Manager at Gulfstream, one of the largest sources of convention business in our area
  • Kelli Sauers, Senior Event Manager at Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, responsible for helping conventions when they're here
  • Kristin Detwiler, Owner of Savannah Destination Management, a private company that specializes in convention business
  • Larry Browder, Director of Convention Sales at Visit Savannah, tasked with bringing conventions here

Recently she transformed Old Fort Jackson into an exact replica of the TV SURVIVOR SHOW! Kristin holds a BS in Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Admin, from Univ. of SC. In Savannah Ms. Detwiler has served on the Board of Directors for the Tourism Leadership Council (TLC), Downtown Business Association (DBA) & Visit Savannah.
